About
A nondenominational church in Jackman, ME
Big Wood Community Church (BWCC) began in 2009 with discussions among individuals about the need for a new Bible-based ministry in the Moose River Valley. This led to a small group of believers forming in the fall of 2011, who agreed to plant a new church. The first worship service was held in a supporter's home, and within four weeks, the ministry was named Big Wood Community Church. By December 6, 2011, BWCC was officially incorporated in Maine as a Local Independent Church and a Not-For-Profit Corporation.
Throughout the winter and spring of 2011-2012, the founding members collaboratively studied church planting, developed their mission, vision, and beliefs, and established bylaws. They also launched a website and Facebook page while working towards a permanent meeting place. Weekly Sunday morning services and evening fellowship gatherings were held in members' homes until May 20, 2012, when the first worship service and children's Sunday School took place in their new setting, with Rev. Kellen Lewis delivering the message. Five days later, Rev. Lewis became the first Pastor of BWCC.
BWCC's mission is rooted in the Great Commission and the Great Commandments, focusing on loving God, loving neighbors, and making disciples. Recognizing unmet spiritual needs in the Moose River Valley and noting Maine's low rate of religious affiliation, BWCC aims to supplement existing local ministries rather than compete, offering both traditional and unique ways to serve and grow the Body of Christ. They invite those seeking a worship community or wanting to learn about Christianity to join their services.
